I can’t say if you’ll agree with me on this but in youth soccer drills, defense is the foundation on which the game depends. When the score in a game is 0-0, it denotes defense played flawlessly by both the sides.

Yet, in kids soccer drills, there are two characteristics of winning a game. One is by demonstrating an outstanding defense. Second is the fact that your team has a great offense competent of defeating the other team’s defense.

In order for the players to score, they must be able to catch the ball. Some coaches have a tendency to train their players in either defense or offense. But, a player is completely trained only when he is proficient in playing offense when the ball is with him or her and defense when it is with the other team’s players.

In youth soccer practice, players who let the ball go out of their possession should instantly go for the ball. This is very important and makes sense because the one who loses the ball is nearest to the ball. As a result, this player should try to put pressure on the one who has the possession of the ball now.

Youth Soccer Drills

This may also be seen as the player trying to get the ball back as soon as is possible. This will also give an opportunity to his co-players to recover and get into their defensive positions. This arc is right ahead of the goal. It sets out from one corner post of the goal all the way through the corner of the goal box and goes on to the touchline. When the ball is inside this area, the chances of scoring the goal are increased.

As a coach, I just cannot emphasize enough that warming up before sessions is not just mandatory but also a great way to kick start your training sessions. In youth soccer drills, coaches fail to take this aspect into consideration. The result is injuries to players while performing drills.

You will find some great tips on warming up your team before practice sessions. Teach the kids to include all the body movements that allow all muscles in the body to get worked up. This is the right way to wake up the entire nervous system. If the movements are intense, body could become stiff or develop cramps.

Tip 1: In this make the players go for a light 5 to 7 minute jog. It’s advisable to begin with a light jog and then move on to sprinting. The pulse rate must get to 120 beats per minute in this. Still, measured growth is preferred. After this, the players should move their legs back and forth for around 10 minutes each.
