It is almost certain that young players enjoy playing soccer the most when they are able to score maximum goals. In designing the practice schedule, include such youth soccer drills that have many opportunities for them to score goals.
Many opportunities can be figured out in between the small sided games, full field scrimmages, and shooting drills. In kids soccer drills, keep on varying the procedures in small sided games and full field scrimmages with a view to encourage players to score more.
You also have the choice to add games that can be played without a goalkeeper or where a goalie’s movement can be restricted within given boundaries. You can add more goals or widen the ones that are previously in use for the purpose of enhancing the chances of scoring more goals.
When young players improve in their shooting technique and the tactical knowledge about the shooting techniques, the chances of goal production are increased manifold. Like passing skills, players should be educated on shooting techniques early in their career. And then during the later stages of his development, these skills can be highlighted more.
In relation to youth soccer practice, performing drills is the most efficient method of improve player’s shooting skills. Players should carry out shooting drills aimed at developing their shooting skills and thus score goals more effectively. Nonetheless, its better that a player’s shooting skills grow with time.
There can be different types of youth soccer drills that can be designed to improve shooting skills by using the following progressions;
1. A stationery player kicking a stationery ball.
2. A moving player shooting a still ball.
3. Moving ball being shot by a stationery player.
4. Moving player shooting a moving ball.
In youth soccer coaching, players should be taught how to strike the ball properly while shooting. Majority of the players take the shots using the inside of their feet. This has the effect of enhancing the shooting accuracy.
In circumstances where it is important to shoot with power, make the players use the instep of their foot to strike the ball. While their toes should point downwards, the ankles should be locked.
The elevation of the shoot is affected by the placement of the non-kicking foot. Ask the players to put their non-kicking foot a little ahead of the ball. This will keep the shot low. Try to focus your player’s attention on striking the ball. You can remove all the distracting equipment such as players and balls so that they focus better.
As their shooting technique improves, keep introducing the level of difficulty in the games. For instance, as their shooting improves, throw balls at various speeds.
